Hey Hunter, would you like Macros with that?

Work in progress…

This is a list of macros I currently use - however I don’t create these myself, I get them from forums and other peoples blogs (other peoples brains w00T.)

A nice thing about macros is that you can list a bunch of actions and perform it all at once with a single button. Hunters have such a huge amount of keys - attacks, aspects, tracking, pet stuff - that really you either use macros and add-ons … or you have the worlds messiest UI.

At the moment a part of my UI overhaul is working out which of these I can effectively replace with addons. And remapping the mouse left/right click as key/alt+key or something. My macros, like everything else are in the process of being overhauled to see if they are suitable for keyboard use.

For the research inclined a list of good Macro websites:

Less QQ more PewPew (Great site - most my current stuff is from here)
Cogwheel’s Macro Guide (Everyone links Cogwheel!)
Arena Junkies Hunter Macros
WoW Wiki Hunter Macros
Priestly Endeavors Macro Guide

Small note:
For alternative actions using ‘alt’ when button clicking use: [nomodifier] [modifier:alt]
For alternative actions using left/right buttons when mouse clicking use: [button:1] ;

Aspect related macros

Action Bar / Aspect Swap
/swapactionbar 1 2
/cast [actionbar:1] Aspect of the Hawk; [actionbar:2] Aspect of the Monkey

What it does:
Simple swap action bar macro - I’ll cast monkey if you are jumping to AB2 or Hawk if you are going to AB1. This I still use, I never did download that aspect bar.

Mana/Hide/Buff Party
/castsequence [button:1] Aspect of the Viper; reset=3 Aspect of the Beast, Aspect of the Wild

What it does:
Left click it casts Aspect of the Viper to regain mana.
Right click once it casts Aspect of the beast to help me be undetectable.
Right click twice and it casts Aspect of the wild and buffs my party with nature resists.
This is simply a useful macro button for some highly used aspects.

Pet related macros

Totem Destroyer
/petattack
/petattack [target=Tremor Totem]
/petattack [target=Earthbind Totem]
/petattack [target=Windfury Totem]
/petattack [target=Fire Resistance Totem]

What it does:
Should send you pet off to destroy totems - i hear it has some problems around friendly shammy totems. Change the totem names to the ones you consider most important to annihilate. Add totem names. I’ll write more when I actually test this.

Tame Pet
#Show Tame Beast
/CastSequence reset=target/30 Aspect of the Monkey, Freezing Trap, Concussive Shot, Tame Beast

What it does:
Spam click - will cast aspect of the monkey, an ice cube, concussive shot on what ever you are targeting (better have that potential pet selected) and then it will pop tame beast. Some peoples may prefer to drop the trap and wait till the cool down has ended before jumping to tame beast - to allow double trapping.) This macro resets after 30 seconds. Thinking of adding in that inspect beast spell too.

Heal/Revive
/cast [button:1] Mend Pet; Revive Pet

What it does:
Left click casts Mend pet
Right click casts Revive pet.
This is just my patch up the pet button.

Feed Pet
/cast Feed Pet
/use [pet:cat/scorpid] Clefthoof Ribs
/use [pet:warp stalker] Telaari Grapes
/em feeds the hungry beast.

What it does:
This is a great macro (from Pewpew I think.) It will feed the cat or the scorpid the meat when i have it out - or the warp stalker the grapes. All with just one click. You can change the food by selecting the current nibbles of choice in the macro window and shift-clicking on intended eats. This should insert the food name in the right place. Change the pet family names for other pets.

Call/Dismiss
/cast [nopet] Call Pet; Dismiss Pet

What it does:
Left click casts call pet.
Right click casts dismiss pet.
My come and go button.

Pet Buff
/use [nomodifier] Kibler’s Bits
/use [modifier:alt] Sporeling Snack

What it does:
Left click feeds the pet a Kibler bit = +20 strength (attack)
Right click feeds the pet a sporeling = +20 stamina (defense)
Allows you to quickly pick the pet buff of your choice.

Pet Attack
/petattack
/cast Hunter’s Mark

What it does:
Cast Hunters mark on the target and sends in the pet to rumble.

Shot related macros

Misdirection to Focus-Tank
/target focus
/cast Misdirection
/targetlasttarget

What it does:
If you have set your pet/tank as the focus, this macro will target them, cast misdirection, and then return to that mob you were targeting. I am thinking of making a target pet one just so I can keep my focus else where in casual parties.

Pulling
#showtooltip Distracting Shot
/cast [nomodifier] Distracting Shot(Rank 1)
/cast [modifier:alt] Distracting Shot(Rank 7)
/stopcasting

What it does:
Left click cast a tiny distracting shot.
Right click cast a big-huge distracting shot (for holding aggro & subsequent trapping)
Then it stops you attacking.

Shot Sequence 1:1 (Beast Master) -read about shot sequence sandwiches HERE
#showtooltip Steady Shot
/castsequence reset=3 Steady Shot, !Auto Shot
/castrandom [target=pettarget, exists] Kill Command
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear()

What it does:
This is my current shot sequence. Blizzard has been changing things to do with auto shot lately so this needs a revamp (aka: I need to go do some reading about shot rotations and sequences myself.) Basically it is meant to make use of steady shot without clipping auto shot and regularly throw in the kill command if it is ready so you don’t waste any potential DPS - solo I have to be careful with this because it will pull the aggro of my pet. EDIT: Think I am missing an ! here :p

Shot Sequence 1:5:1 (Marksman)
Coming soon

What it does:
coming soon

Stings (PVE)
/cast [button:1] Serpent Sting; Scorpid Sting

What it does:
Left click cast serpent sting
Right click cast scorpid sting
Mostly used to tap things I am playing the kite game with and keep them interested.

Viper Sting (PVP)
#showtooltip Viper Sting
/cast [nomodifier] Viper Sting(Rank 4)
/cast [modifier:alt] Viper Sting(Rank 1)

What it does:
Left click cast big mana sucking viper sting
Right click cast little mana sucking viper sting and mess with their heads - hopefully getting them to waste more mana cleansing it than you did casting it.

Silence/Scatter Focus
#showtooltip Silencing Shot
/cast [target=focus,harm] [ ] Silencing Shot

What it does:
Silences the focus and returns to your original target. Replace Silencing Shot with Shatter Shot for Scatter… or Viper Sting come to think of it.

Mouseover Silence/Scatter
#showtooltip Silencing Shot
/cast [target=mouseover, harm][harm] Silencing Shot

What it does:
Hold button down and mouse over an enemy to silence them. Replace ‘Silencing Shot’ with ‘Scatter Shot’ for Scatter.

Trap related macros

Fire Traps
/cast [button:1] Immolation Trap; Explosive Trap

What it does:
Left click casts the little ‘one-guy’ fire trap
Right click casts the big ‘everysod-on-the-flag’ fire trap.
Says it all really.

Ice Traps
/cast [button:1] Freezing Trap; Frost Trap

What it does:
Left click casts the little ice block
Right click casts the big ice slick
Also says it all really.

Misc macros

Wrath
/cast Bestial Wrath
/use Terokkar Tablet of Precision

What it does:
This will cast BW & use a trinket for a super power up combo (& because I forget I have things like trinkets) I usually hit Orc ‘Blood Fury’ at this point if they are getting into melee range or ‘Rapid Fire’ if they are at a distance.

You Have Aggro!
#showtooltip Feign Death
/cast [button:1] Disengage(Rank 4); Feign Death

What it does:
Left click spam works disengage to lose aggro in an instance situation. You should be running your mob to the tank where hopefully he will hit it while you spam this untill the Omen addon shows your treat as nice an low again.
Right click will Feign Death.

Craft tool bar
/changeactionbar 4

What it does:
Takes you to toolbar 4, which has all your fishing stuff no doubt :p and a button to jump back to your attack bar one hopes.

Scout Button
/cast [button:1] Eagle Eye; Eyes of the Beast

What it does:
Left click cast eagle eye
Right click cast eyes of the beast
This is my scouting button - these are the ways I can check out other flag points in BGs.

We Have Incoming!
/bg You know … they are going to zerg straight down the sides to one of our towers - why don’t we all run up the middle dump a couple guys at flag and take Mage tower & D ruins? Then we can make for a third tower and kill some gnomes!

What it does:
Its a simple chat message - usually it gets changed on the fly. For example if I have the flag and I have just gone over to some bushes east of our GY to hide by using ‘Aspect of the Beast’ /lie (goodbye pet) - then I can spend a second writing a ‘help dear god a rogue’ maco or something. Lately (over Christmas) I was using it to attempt some win strategy in Eye of the Storm… worked too, everyone got super aggressive and hacked off a lot of gnome heads (strangely our rush for their bases won us our own … guess it helped throw off their zerg strategy or something…. Christmas was a horrible time for Horde BGs)

PVP Tracking
/castsequence [button:1] Track Humanoids; reset=3 Track Hidden, Track Beasts

What it does:
Left click cast track human
Right click cast track hidden
Right click x2 cast track beast
This basically allows me to cycle through the top 3 things that may be heading my way - or to blip my humanity/beasties radar before settling back into watching for rogues.

The Run Button
/cast [button:1] Aspect of the Cheetah; Aspect of the Pack

What it does:
Left click cast Aspect of the cheetah
Right click cast Aspect of the pack
Now you can flee into the sunset, and take you party with you (but you better warn them, a lot of toons hate the daze effect.) I mostly use this for kiting and running no-mount lowbies to an instance I am taking them through.

Mount macro

Hi-Ho Silver Away
/cast [button:2] Tawny Windrider
/stopmacro [button:2]
/cast Horn of the Black War Wolf
/dismount

What it does:
Left click ride away on the wolf
Right click fly away on the windrider
If you are already mounted - get off.
I really need to add in a swap trinkets part for the riding whip :) - but I am currently checking around for good mount add-ons.

  1. Nice work here, wondering about leveling my hunter, its at lvl 20 atm :P

Have to get that feeding macro, think ive lost two cats, thought it suddenly learned stealth since i sendt it on a mob, my tiger never returned /cry;< lost me a spider and a smelly boar, didint like him, got a cleaner boar now. Really like playing the hunter, training/playing with the freese trap, pet takes one mob, and i kite another, so i can learn abit about CC, keep up the good work :-D

  2. Thank-yee :)

All macros gleaned from the pros - I think I found the Feed Pet on over on ‘Less QQ more PewPew’ (& I grabbed it to replace the one I was using which relied on bag slot numbers because it had the two pets I ran with already nicely written in there.)

Oh dear all those running pets – don’t they know a good thing when they see it, can’t they see how you will look after them, feed them, love them … send them in to tank that world dragon while you run for the hills. XD

Don’t worry – it’s the ones that stick around that are gutsy!

  3. Hey,

I was fiddling and the to the pet attack one you can also add

    /cast Auto Shot

I was fiddling and it worked - it doesn’t seem to be affected by Global cooldown like the other spells to get you firing faster if you choose.

  4. You macro hound you ^_^ - I decided to leave the auto shot off and do it all manual like, mainly because I kept tapping mobs before I was ready (I am one of those hunters that casts the mark - sends the beast in and then wanders aimlessly from side to side for 1/2 a min lol)

  5. I have found another one, which might be useful depending on playing style.

    #showtooltip
/castsequence reset=Target/Combat Serpent Sting, Distracting Shot, Arcane Shot

    What it does?
Okay it doesn’t cast them all at once but basically it combines your three different buttons into one button.

This is useful if you are forever like me casting these three shots in the same order one at a time at different mobs. (This is mainly for quest grinding PvE style)

For example: if you tie this button to button number “2″ then you press 2 once and serpent sting will go off, then the picture will change while the cooldown happens and then you can cast distracting shot, and then a third time for arcane shot. (You can change the order of these to any combination you like). If the mob dies then it will reset itself back to the beginning of the chain.
If when you type it in you use the “?” picture then the pictures will change each time you cast telling you where you are up to.

Downside of this: is if one of the shots doesn’t go off (say resisted or something) the picture still changes to the next in the order and you can’t go back without re-casting the earlier dots - waste of mana … (for me I usually don’t realise one of them hasn’t cast properly until after I finish the set) but you can have the second and third buttons handy for that time someone resists a dot.

As I said it may or may not be useful depending on your playing style.

  6. nice - I like the show tooltip bit! Hadn’t realised if I left it blank it would help out.
This kinda thing would be good for a panic button too (heck i am getting ganked where are my keys.)
Maybe something like: autoattack / mark / petattack / ice trap / arcane or concussive (all things that can be cast while you panic and strafe in a circle :p - and hopefully by that point you have remembered what your wingclip and trinkey keys are ^_^)

  7. WOW, I love the macro’s list here, especially the feeding pet macro, I’ll have to take that one and use with Abadon, my 70 hunter. He’s on the Cenarion Circle server if you ever want to say hi!

  8. Will do ^_^ - just about to dig into these and tidy them up (most of them were written by the guys I have linked - bless em)
